Meatloaf is a classic comfort food, finding a healthy meatloaf recipe can be tough, so once again I took my favourite recipe and moulded it into something more healthy than the original. This recipe has become yet another family staple. I make this at the same time as my healthy stuffed pepper recipe and either toss it in the fridge for the next day or in the freezer for another week.

This recipe is super simple because essentially you throw everything in a bowl and form a loaf and cook with the exception of pre-cooking onion, garlic and quinoa but again that’s easy, not rocket science.

Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 50 minutes

Healthy Meatloaf Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 TSP oil
  • 1/2 pound of ground turkey (225g)
  • 1/2 pound of lean ground pork (225g)
  • 1/2 CUP of finely chopped bell pepper
  • 1 small yellow onion chopped
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 3/4 CUP of cooked quinoa (1/2 CUP water with 1/4 CUP quinoa)
  • 1 TBSP tomato taste
  • egg
  • 1 TSBP Sriracha
  • 2 TBSP Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 TSP ground black pepper
  • 1 TSP sea salt crushed
  • 1/4 TSP onion powder
  • 1/4 TSP garlic salt
  • pinch of chili flakes
  • egg
  • seasoned breadcrumbs (optional)

 Topping (optional, but I recommend)

  • 1 TBSP of tomato paste
  • 2 TBSP of brown sugar
  • 2 TSP of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 TSP sea salt crushed
  • 1/4 TSP onion powder
  • 1/4 TSP garlic salt
  • Pinch of chili flakes

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Heat olive oil in a pan and add onion, garlic and pepper. Cook until onion are soft, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  3. In a large bowl combine your onion mixture, ground turkey, ground pork, quinoa, tomato paste, Sriracha, Worcestershire sauce, egg, salt and pepper. Mixture will be very wet, if too wet add some breadcrumbs. On a foiled baking sheet, form mixture into loaf shape.
*Be careful mixing with hands if onion mixture is still hot
  4. For topping, combine tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, onion powder, garlic salt and chili flakes into a small bowl. Brush all sauce onto the top and sides on the meatloaf
  5. Bake meatloaf in oven until no longer pink in the center, approximately 50 minutes. If you have a probe thermometer, shold read 160 degrees F. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
